Stephen and I At My Work

My Dad took this picture of Stephen and I at my school when I gave them the tour. Notice the huge turtle that Stephen is holding. The is our school turtle believe it or not. Our school is big into school pets (lizards, turtle, fish) and I am not going to do my part as it looks like I will be doing the ol' hatch the chicken in an incubator. A great parent has offered to do it and take care of it. My response to the suggestion was, what do I have to do ( nothing!) and can I call the parent as soon as I see a chick emerging. ( yes!) I think it will actually be quite cool as we have started a bird unit and we can study a lot about the eggs. Our school has also never done this so it will be a good spring activity.

Also my Dad emailed this very cool webcam address to check out of a Bald Eagle sitting on nest on Hornby Island, BC. The chicks are to hatch very soon! Check it out at http://www.infotecbusinesssystems.com/wildlife/ We are watching it in our classroom and the students are pumped! The concept of a WebCam is new to many!

Nice pic. I haven't seen one of you and Stephen together on the blog yet. I love the turtle, it's so big - the kids must love all the pets.

Hey when our Grade one's did a chick and egg unit, hey put chicks in a large aquarium and put the aquarium on a large makeshift cart with wheels. This worked really well, because everyone could see the chicks through the glass and you could move it around the classroom. They did this project where they drew a chick and labelled all the parts (very detailed)...and they really liked this.

Warning: after a while, they totally stink (esp at 2-3 weeks old). On the last day, I used them in art class and the the smell made me gag. I would definently get rid of them by the third week, if not sooner.

Have fun with all that!

Thanks Jenessa. I guess I haven't posted one of us together as it is usually one of us taking a picture of the other. Thanks for the info on the birds. I am hoping to only keep them for a few days after the hatch.
