A Few Events of the Last Week

Well, I realized I had not posted lately and have a few things to report so I will proceed to use the point form method to convey some points of the last week.

- firstly, today we dropped off Allison at the airport after a delightful two week visit. This event has only caused me to hate the Indy Airport even more as it is associated with sad goodbyes, frustrating luggage problems, and an old decor. As always after having great guests, a sense of isolation surrounds us and we are forced to get back into our routine without the love and fun of family. There was authentic Thai food this week, kickboxing, more aqau fit, Cincinnati, Gilmore Girls, the making of Hummingbird feeders, birding, and shopping. Fun and memorable times.

-One place we took in was the Cincinnati Freedom Center which is dedicated to remembering the fight to freedom by African American slaves, specifically through the Underground Railroad. It is very powerful as the center is on the Ohio River, the river that many people had to cross in order to enter the free state of Ohio from Kentucky. They have brought in an actual slave pen which is a small wooden structure that held slaves as they were being bought and sold. It was haunting and also scary to be in a place where people were forced to be naked, chained together, beaten, and raped. You are struck by how these events are not so long ago and how in so many places they continue. A powerful experience and a good reminder of the freedom that I take for granted.

- And perhaps the greatest relief was that I completed report cards for Quarter 3 on Thursday night. They were more difficult this time around as I wanted to be with Allison, it was so beautiful this week, and I felt like I had just written them. However, a sense of accomplishment and relief has now hit and I feel good about them. It is funny reading other teacher's blogs and getting the relief that they also feel. Has anybody tried the program GradePro? I would be interested in hearing about it if you have.

Have a great Monday tomorrow!

Way to go on the report cards Amber. I have heard of grade pro, but never used it. We use a program called "School Information System" which works well I find.

Yeah for report cards being done! We're actually on Spring Break right now... much needed! Haven't heard of GradePro, I think the program we use was specifically designed for our school, but I could be wrong. Happy teaching!

Thanks for the response to Grande Pro. Our school does not have a program but the public school around us uses GradePro. You can buy individual copies and I am considering. We'll see.

I would go for the program. I knew a teacher in Picture Butte who had a program like that and she entered her grades from the week into it every Friday. Report cards took her half the time of everybody else. Plus if you could do that wouldn't you feel like the most responsible teacher EVER!
