As of Friday, I have completed my first teaching year in the States. The week was a blur of late nights, graduation ceremonies, cleaning, finishing projects, and staff changes but today I woke up ( unfortunately really early still) and was able to reflect a bit. This concludes my third official year of teaching on the pay scale and I almost feel like I need to start writing things down in hopes of not forgetting many of the students and situations that have impacted me. As cheesy as it sounds, I feel like I could compile a Chicken Soup for the Soul on some of my experiences. Perhaps working with the student population that I do, I have had opportunities to work with a lot of different ability levels, family situations, and personalities that are unique. I am always tempted to share but I feel that the professionalism of teaching includes a high level of confidentiality so I resist. Yet I think I need to write them down because I want to remember their situations and what can happen in a year. I want to be able to read them when I am frustrated at another night of planning or finding another freaking recipe for cooking class!

I feel blessed when I think that I was able to work almost the entire teaching year here despite just moving and feel grateful that I am at the school that I am at. At the graduation ceremony, the students all received awards and then shook hands with all the teachers before sitting down. I was moved by the pride and joy in their faces, many who have experienced little of this in the past.
And so now I will relax. I have a whole week to finish report cards, plan Paris excursions, rollerblade on a new path we found ( first opportunity to rollerblade since the summer due to no paths here...but we are taking them to Paris), long to feel the excitement of the Oilers winning ( no hockey is played here on TV), and look forward to coming home for a rest and a great wedding!

That's so great that you have had so many impacting experiences through your jobs...I'm excited when the day finally comes for me to be a certified teacher.
Amber, I've been meaning to tell you that all the Bath & Body Works products you got me are absolutely incredible...especially the lavender-vanilla night creme. I pretty much use it every day. So thanks again!
I am glad the cream is good...I love that store.
And you will be a great teacher! Whether it is from U of A or U of L won't matter.
Congratulations, Amber! Finishing a full year is quite an accomplishment! Have a great time in Paris (take lots of pics) and we'll probably see you at the wedding!!!!!
Congrats you! I am proud of you. You inspire me to finish off my year with enthusiasm. Things are already getting so busy with end of the year happenings and report cards are just around the corner.
